Yes, we offer engaging Japanese calligraphy experiences lasting 90 to 120 minutes in the heart of Tokyo! Here’s what to expect:
- Introduction to Calligraphy: Learn the history of Japanese calligraphy and essential strokes and styles from your instructor.
- Demonstration: Watch as the teacher demonstrates proper brush-holding techniques and stroke orders for selected kanji or letters. Interested participants can also try different types of brushes ("fude") and make fresh ink ("sumi").
- Hands-on Practice: Start with practice on test paper before creating your final version on high-quality paper.
- Live Feedback & Support: The teacher will provide personalized feedback and answer any questions during the session.
- Group Sharing: At the end, share your creations and impressions with fellow participants.
Your Shodo Sensei will be Kyoko Imai, a professional calligrapher, certified instructor, and designer based in Tokyo. With over 10 years of experience running Kaorushodo, she regularly exhibits her work both in Japan and internationally. If Kyoko is unavailable, her daughter Noe will lead the class. Noe has studied under Kyoko and works in a Japanese art gallery.
